For those of us interested in astrology, every sign has unique traits that define them. Some signs are compatible and some just aren’t!
We love looking up our signs and learning about them, don’t we? Finding out all the secret things that make us unique. So after all this learning, we look up to find someone with smoldering eyes definitely trying to catch our attention.
After some time we discover that our new love interest’s horoscope sign is opposite ours (gasp)! Don’t give up hope yet… Can incompatible zodiac signs work out?
The most incompatible signs can still make it work even if their signs do not match up traditionally. When dealing with love, there are many other aspects of your astrological chart to consider other than just your sun sign. Perhaps your Sun – Moon compatibility indicates a better match.
When doing all that research to find out what makes you a zodiac star you find out each sign covers a lot of ground. Each sign covers thirty days to be exact. That’s a lot of celestial space and personality traits to stretch.
This is where you can go all cold case and dig in right down to the minute and place you were born to find out the “specialness” of you. It can seem daunting, with all the technical jargon and sheer amount of information.
Our traditional zodiac has been around since the fifth century B.C. and those Babylonian astrologers worked out the real complicated parts. We also have many lovely experts these days in case you need help along the way.

Compatible Zodiac Signs
OK, to understand what signs are compatible, we should first go over which signs can vibe together. (Read about compatible zodiac signs in more detail here, “What zodiac signs work well together?“)
- Aries can spark with Aquarius, Sagittarius, Leo, and Gemini.
- Taurus likes to partner up with Virgo and Pisces.
- Gemini has an affinity for Aquarius and Libra.
- Cancer finds Scorpio and Pisces amorous partners.
- Leo that proud lion feels a kinship with Libra, Gemini, Aries, and Sagittarius.
- Virgo the virtuous relate to Taurus and Capricorn.
- Libra likes to cuddle up with Leo and Sagittarius.
- Scorpio our seeker of shadows loves to adventure with other Scorpios and Pisces.
- Sagittarius likes to look for excitement with Leo, Aries, Libra, and Aquarius.
- Capricorn likes to get straight to the point with Scorpios, Taurus, Virgo, and Pisces.
- Aquarius explore their independence with Gemini and Libra.
- Pisces get along swimmingly with Scorpio and Cancer.
This is pretty much what the compatibility traditionally looks like horoscope wise.
Water signs (Scorpio, Cancer, and Pisces) balance out Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn). Water is fluid, and spiritual with an emotional depth that can be a bit daunting.
Earth however can counterbalance water with their down to earth style and offer water some grounding support.
Air amps up fire signs as a creative and intellectual muse.
Fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) energize air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) into action.
Also note that signs that are in the same element form trines, or angles with each other. Trines is an astrology term that means one hundred and twenty degrees, or one-third of a circle. It refers to favorable energies between two celestial bodies.

Opposing Zodiac signs
If you are still with me, let us look at those opposing signs.
- Aries opposes Libra
- Taurus opposes Scorpio
- Gemini opposes Sagittarius
- Cancer opposes Capricorn
- Leo opposes Aquarius
- Virgo opposes Pisces

If you take a look at this list and see that your zodiac sign is the opposite of your sweetie’s zodiac sign, don’t lose hope. In no way does it means that you are instantly incompatible. It just means that your relationship may not be the smoothest.
It is said that fire will burn the earth leaving bitter-tasting ash in your mouth. Earth and air make things hazy as they have a hard time mixing.
These tidings are more a warning on how the two of you can be at your worst. You can really just use this as a guideline pointing out possible difficulties for you down the road.
Just like there is more than one side of your personality there is more than one aspect of your horoscope sign. Your sun sign is your zodiac personality or your main personality which is dictated by the date of your birth.
Your moon sign gives you insight into your inner mood and emotion, this is found by calculating your full date, time, and place of birth.
So, what does all that mean? It means that opposites can work if other areas of your chart can work together.

Other Aspects of your Zodiac Compatibility
Sun signs only cover part of your personality as I mentioned before. Sun-moon compatibility plays a bigger part in your personal interactions than sun-sun compatibility.
For moon signs, water gets along swimmingly with other water and earth signs. Fire signs light up with other fire signs and air signs.
Since moon signs show your emotions this gives you a clearer sense of you, your energies will match up beyond the day to day sun sign.
Calculating your moon sign is where your natal chart comes in. A natal chart can also show you many more aspects that make you who you are.
You can get your natal chart done online. One of my favorite places is alabe.com, they offer a free birth chart and astrology report based on Placidus method of calculating astrological houses.
There are plenty of sites that offer free charts, if you want something more personal, then you could spend a little cash to get your chart read and interpreted by an expert. These charts will show your moon signs, Venus signs, planet houses, and trines just to name a few things.
By the way! Your Venus sign rules love and beauty. Knowing how Venus shows up in your chart lets you know your romantic habits, what brings you pleasure, and what you value most in your partner.
Now, cue the scary music, what happens if no part of your charts are compatible? Should you throw in the towel and prepare your woe is me?
No, all it really means is you will have obstacles to your relationship. Seems no worse than any normal relationship, right? You learn to compromise and communicate to make it work.
With these charts, you will have a bit of a lead on what to look out for though. If your willing to put in the extra work, as well as your partner, then incompatibility is not the end of the world.
Each sign has its own foibles and quirks. Communication and understanding can get you through tough times and sand down any rough spots.

The Science Behind Zodiac Sign Compatibility and Incompatibility
For those still doubting I present some science. There was a study in 2007, entitled “Ten million marriages: A test of astrological “love signs”.” This study was done by a research team from the University of Manchester.

The study reviewed ten million marriages in the United Kingdom in connection with their zodiac signs. After the study was finished, they found that one’s zodiac sign had no impact on getting or staying married to someone of an incompatible sign.
Our signs started as very generalized summaries of people born at that time of the year. This science was there to help guide and give our ancestors an edge. Natal charts were used to make happy marriages and tell you what type of business would make you the happiest in your life.
These charts even mapped out the destiny of kings. If it’s been around for so many hundreds of years, there must be something to it. You must admit we all have at least one or two stereotypical traits of our sun signs.
Rest assured you can make a relationship of incompatible signs. Every relationship has its own unique circumstances Whether you take council from astrology or forge ahead creating your destiny fearlessly and unconcerned.

Some of My Favorite Items
I love my Asakuki Diffuser, I have this going in my living room or my office with either peppermint or lavender. The diffuser holds more water than other diffusers and lasts longer. It also has a timer so that I doesn’t run dry. The Diffuser adds a nice gentle scent to my home.
I also love having my White Sound Machine and my Asakuki Diffuser running in my living room. Sometimes I will choose the sound of rain or the ocean or even thunder. It depends on my mood.
I’ll fill the diffuser with lavender or peppermint. With the thunder in the background and the smell of peppermint, it’s like being whisked away to a faraway place!
I really love the Himalayan salt Lamp and my Crystal Tree of Life. I have them in my office and they create a “zen” feel for me while I’m working.
