If you are interested in astrology, you’ve probably wondered at some point or another about which zodiac sign is the most disliked.
Based on their dominant personality traits, the least favorite zodiac signs from each natural element are Scorpio (water), Leo (fire), Gemini (air), and Capricorn (earth). Because each sign gets along with other signs differently, it’s only fair to nominate one sign from each element as the most hated.

To really understand the least favorite zodiac sign let’s first look at the elements associated with each zodiac sign.

The Four Elements
Each zodiac sign belongs to one of the four elements: earth, fire, air, and water. The twelve signs of the zodiac are distributed evenly across these four elements, meaning a total of three signs belong to each element.
The twelve signs are divided into four elements as follows:
- Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
- Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
- Air signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
- Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Typically, signs belonging to the same element have more in common with each other and tend to mix better than any other element. For example, the three earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, so a Virgo and a Capricorn will get along better than, say, a Virgo and an Aries, which is a fire sign.
Think about it this way: when you’re baking, it’s usually easier to combine two ingredients of similar composition. Mixing two dry ingredients is simpler than trying to blend dry and wet ingredients. For example, flour and sugar blend more easily than flour and eggs.
When you put two signs of the same element together, they tend to blend more seamlessly than two signs from different elements. You can even look at how the elements themselves mix to get a sense of how signs from two different elements will get along.
For example, fire and air signs are usually either best friends or hate each other, with little to no middle ground. This makes sense when you consider the way that fire and air interact with each other.
Air can stoke the fire, either helping it grow from a spark into a beautiful flame or can blow it out completely. It can also stoke fire too much to where it turns into a destructive wildfire.
Because each sign tends to get along with the other signs of the same element, it makes sense to select one sign from each element as the most hated. A water sign will probably hate an air sign more than a fellow water sign, while a fire sign might not be able to stand an earth sign.
Between the three signs belonging to each element, the least favorite sign is the one with the most disliked personality traits and the lowest popularity.

Least Favorite Water Sign: Scorpio
Born between October 23rd and November 21st, Scorpio is perhaps the least favorite sign of the entire zodiac without even taking into consideration its element.
Sandwiched between two of the most likable zodiac signs, Libra and Sagittarius, Scorpio sticks out as a manipulative, power-hungry, and deceptive sign.
On the positive side, Scorpios are mysterious, passionate, curious, and intelligent. On the other hand, they are also dark, vengeful, obsessive, and controlling.

Just like their symbol, the scorpion, Scorpios can be terrifying and have a vicious sting. What most people don’t understand, though, is like a scorpion, Scorpios only attack when they feel threatened – which, due to their sensitive and domineering nature, is often.

To be fair, though, one could argue that other people truly only dislike one side of the Gemini personality, because this sign is notoriously two-faced. While Scorpio’s symbol is the scorpion, the symbol for Gemini is the twins, which represents the duality of the Gemini personality.
One of the reasons Gemini is one of the least favorite signs is that, like Scorpios, Geminis are excellent liars. While a Scorpio is great at hiding things in the shadows, a Gemini’s two-faced nature means they lie so well they even sometimes deceive themselves.
On the bright side, Geminis are fun-loving, energetic, communicative, and eccentric. On the dark side, Geminis are unreliable, indecisive, judgmental, and materialistic.
Dating a Gemini is like dating two very different people. One minute they can be loving and affectionate, while the next they are throwing tantrums and cheating on you.
In fact, one of the reasons Geminis are so intensely disliked is that they are highly likely to be unfaithful in relationships. Geminis get bored easily and are very social. When they tire of their partners, they can quickly find someone to satisfy their constant need for mental and physical stimulation.
If you want a partner who knows who they are and will be faithful to you, steer clear of a Gemini, at least until they have had enough life experience to figure out who they are and what they want. Those belonging to this sign are likely to break a lot of hearts on their quest to find themselves.
Least Favorite Fire Sign: Leo
What’s interesting about Leo being the most hated fire sign is that, unlike the other signs on this list, Leos tend to be quite popular. But being popular doesn’t always mean you are well-liked.
Think of Leos, who are born between July 23rd and August 22nd, as the stereotypical “mean girl” in high school. They may be flashy and well-known, but they are also proud, vain, and want all the attention for themselves. These queen bees’ rule more like dictators than royalty.
It’s worth mentioning that Aries is another fire sign that’s almost as unlikable as Leo, but there are some differences between these two signs that make Leo the top pick for the least favorite fire sign.
While Aries are selfish and demanding, they don’t need attention from everyone, just the people closest to them. A Leo is selfish and demanding and needs every eye in the room to be on them to feel satisfied.
Aries also don’t care as much what others think of them, while Leos live for the applause and need admiration, or else they will get frustrated and pouty.
Because they need so much recognition, Leos are almost as likely as Geminis to cheat, but only if their partners neglect them. A Leo will be loyal as long as they have their partner’s undying devotion and undivided attention.
Least Favorite Earth Sign: Capricorn
Capricorns, who are born between December 22nd and January 19th, are disliked because they are as cold as the winter season of their birth.
They are the least favorite earth sign because it’s hard to get this sign to open up emotionally, and once they do reveal themselves, there isn’t a lot to love beneath the surface.
On the plus side, Capricorns are hard-working, ambitious, disciplined, and logical. On the other hand, they are relentless, boring, pessimistic, and uptight.
Just as Leo and Aries compete for the least favored fire sign, Capricorn nearly shares the title of most disliked earth sign with Virgo. But Virgos have some redeeming qualities that keep them out of this category.
While they can be hyper-critical, Virgos are always trying to fix what they see as “wrong” with people because they care. They have a warm and loving side that can make their perfectionism endearing rather than grating.
But Capricorns are cold through and through. Some Capricorn women may give off a warmer vibe, but most of them, particularly the males of this sign, are distant and aloof.
Capricorns are also the wet blankets of the zodiac. While Virgos will point out a problem and then offer a solution, Capricorns are often negative and pessimistic without presenting alternatives.
Their ambition can make them ruthless and they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, no matter who they have to step on to reach the top.
As lovers, Capricorns have a hard time forming emotional connections because they are so unapproachable and unemotional. Trying to get an ounce of feeling or affection from a Capricorn is like trying to wring water from a brand-new, bone-dry sponge.
The only things they are passionate about are money and their careers.
They are also likely to cheat because they compartmentalize their emotions well. They can easily manage the logistics of an affair and they can rationalize the affair so that they don’t feel guilty.
If you want a warm and amorous partner, stay away from Capricorns. They will never put you first and struggle to show love.
Conclusion
The signs tend to be more attracted to signs of their same natural element, so it makes sense to include one sign from each element when discussing the least favorite zodiac sign.
While the earth sign Virgo’s least favorite sign may be fiery Aries, the air sign Libra’s least favorite sign could be watery Pisces.
Based on their personality traits and popularity, the least favorite signs of the zodiac from each element are Scorpio (water), Gemini (air), Leo (fire), and Capricorn (earth).
