How Accurate Is Astrology?

If you are interested in astrology or considering consulting an astrologer, you may wonder just how accurate astrology really is.

Ultimately, astrology is as accurate as you believe it is, but its accuracy is increased by understanding how astrology works and its limitations, asking the right questions, looking at a detailed birth chart, and consulting a skilled astrologer.

Astrology Is a Pseudoscience

One of the reasons some people don’t believe in astrology’s accuracy is that astrology is technically classified as a pseudoscience.

But just because astrology is a pseudoscience doesn’t mean it’s not valid or real. The word pseudoscience carries a negative connotation, but all it means is that the theories behind science can’t be proven.

Other examples of pseudoscience besides astrology include but are not limited to, hypnotism, polygraph tests, numerology, body language analysis, handwriting analysis, and more.

As you can see from these examples, the word pseudoscience encompasses many practices and beliefs. They have varying degrees of scientific evidence, but none have been entirely proven; however, they can’t be entirely disproven, either.

For the scientific aspect of astrology, one thing you can consider when deciding whether or not astrology is real and accurate is the moon’s effect on the ocean tides.

It’s scientifically proven that the phases of the moon correlate with gravity and the tidal pull of the ocean.

If the moon can affect the ocean, which is water, and humans and the earth are both mostly composed of water, then doesn’t it stand to reason that it’s possible that other planetary influences could affect humans and the world we share?

When it comes to astrology or any of the other pseudosciences, you have to do your own research and decide for yourself whether or not there is enough evidence for you to believe it works.

Full Birth Chart

With so many facets of astrology to explore for accuracy, we will focus our search for precision on birth charts and personal readings.

One of the best ways to ensure you get as accurate of an astrology reading as possible is to look at your full birth chart.

When most people consider astrology, the first thing they think of is their sun sign. This is the sign correlated with your day and month of birth. For example, if you were born between December 21st and January 21st, your sun sign is Capricorn.

Most general horoscopes refer to your sun sign. Your sun sign reveals some of your basic personality traits and how you interact with other people.

While your sun sign is the most popular and commonly known aspect of astrology, there is so much more to astrology than that.

Part of the reason why some people are skeptical of astrology’s accuracy is that they take only one aspect, such as the sun sign, into account.

But reading a monthly horoscope for your sun sign in a beauty magazine is not the same thing, nor nearly as accurate, as getting a detailed, personalized reading from a skilled and experienced astrologer.

To see your full birth chart, you need to know the exact date, time, and location of your birth. You can get this information from your birth certificate. Check out this free tool to show your birth chart:

What your chart tells you is where all of the planets were positioned at the exact time of your birth in relation to your location. Astrologers believe the positions of the planets have a great deal of influence over your personality and your destiny.

Instead of just using your sun sign to make predictions, your full natal chart tells you your moon sign, your rising sign, your Lilith, and many other astrological aspects.

A skilled astrologer can combine all the information on your chart to give you a significantly more comprehensive and precise reading than the generalized horoscopes you may find on popular websites and magazines.

Experience and Intuition

Besides the scientific aspects, which are based on the positions of the planets, there is an intuitive element to astrology.

Some of the astrologers’ reading comes from their personal experiences and research. This is why two different astrologers may look at your birth chart and tell you different things.

An astrologer can’t help but add their own experiences and intuition into the mix when giving you a reading.

For example, if you have a Gemini sun sign with a Pisces moon sign and your astrologer dated someone with the same sign combination, their experiences with their ex can help guide them through the reading.

Of course, any reading shouldn’t be based solely on intuition and experience, but no reading can or should be entirely uninfluenced by intuition and experience, either.

The more experience you or your astrologer has with birth charts, readings, and predictions, the more accurate your reading will be.

Also, the more intuitive and instinctive you or your astrologer is, the better your reading will be. You will notice that the more you learn about astrology, the more you will hone your intuition and be able to combine experience with instincts to come up with accurate and precise readings.

Choosing an Astrologer or Astrology Tool

When looking at the accuracy of astrology, it’s important to consider the sources of your information.

Are the horoscopes in a glossy magazine, which are usually based solely on your sun sign, only about two sentences long, and suggest you buy a particular product, going to be as accurate as a personalized, one-on-one reading from an experienced astrologer you trust? Certainly not.

There are many online sources that will automatically generate a birth chart for you for free. You will need to know the exact time, date, and location of your birth to plug into these online calculators.

Most of these generators are very accurate because they just tell you where the planets were positioned when you were born.

Many of them use up-to-date and accurate data from planetary databases created by NASA. Some offer free interpretations of each aspect of your chart, but you will need a human astrologer to combine all of the aspects for a complete reading.

But when it comes to daily, monthly, or annual horoscopes, you want to choose an astrologer, website, or another resource that you have thoroughly researched and trusted.

Just like hiring a professional to complete any job, you should research your astrologer and ask questions about their skills and experience. How long have they been practicing astrology and performing readings? Do they have a particular area of expertise?

Finding the right astrologer is similar to finding the right therapist or doctor. You want to find someone with all of the technical qualifications, but you also want to feel like you can trust this person and have a rapport with them.

Are there scam artists out there who claim to be expert astrologers looking to take advantage of unsuspecting astrology enthusiasts to make a quick buck? Absolutely. But there are just as many, if not more, authentic and qualified astrologers who can give you an accurate reading at a fair price.

Don’t get discouraged if you have one bad experience with an astrologer. Keep looking until you find one that you connect with who gives you consistently accurate readings and doesn’t pressure you financially.

When choosing astrology websites to trust, avoid blogs and opinion-based pieces. Anyone can create a web page and put their beliefs out as fact. You, the consumer, need to be discerning and cautious when choosing which online resources to consult and trust.

Astrology books, especially ones that are fact-checked and put out by publishing companies rather than self-published, are a great way to learn more about astrology and help you accurately read your own birth chart. Look for books that are written by trusted astrologer authors with strong, positive reviews.

Summary

As a pseudoscience, there will always be those who don’t believe astrology is real or accurate.

The scientific aspect of astrology, the part involving the position of the planets, is completely accurate and evidence-based. The metaphysical aspects like believing the planets can influence our destiny and having an intuitive astrologer are open to interpretation concerning how accurate they are.

The more research you do about astrology and the sources you use to find your information, the more accurate your astrology readings will be.

I love my Asakuki Diffuser, I have this going in my living room or my office with either peppermint or lavender. The diffuser holds more water than other diffusers and lasts longer. It also has a timer so that it doesn’t run dry. The Diffuser adds a nice gentle scent to my home.

I also love having my White Sound Machine and my Asakuki Diffuser running in my living room. Sometimes I will choose the sound of rain or the ocean or even thunder. It depends on my mood.

I’ll fill the diffuser with lavender or peppermint. With the thunder in the background and the smell of peppermint, it’s like being whisked away to a faraway place!

I really love the Himalayan salt Lamp and my Crystal Tree of Life. I have them in my office and they create a “zen” feel for me while I’m working.
